"Question related to concerns we had for our own safety" by Ann on December 7, 2004, 2:16 pm, in category General

From my perspective, I did not fear for my own personal safety while in Moscow. I believe we were all cautious when traveling the Metro or walking at night. We were told to keep our personal items close ie: pocketbooks, wallets etc. There are pickpockets who would take advantage of a situation in Moscow as there are everywhere. Thanks for the question. Safety is always a consideration no matter where one is traveling. Comments

"atmosphere during training" by Ann on December 6, 2004, 4:03 pm, in category General

The general atmosphere was somewhat quiet when we began the training. The people from Beslan did speak about their concerns that they were told to tell parents during the first day of the takeover that "everything will be alright". When everything was not alright, the psychologists felt as though the family members blamed them for being dishonest. We all know there ws no way anyone could have known the outcome initially. The psychologists were looking for some additional assistance in help for t..... Comments

We are getting several questions about the atmosphere in Russia during the time of the seminar. For ease of following the journal, we will answer these questions and comments as new posts, rather than in the sections where the questions and comments are posted. Comments

"Day Two ... part one" by Connie on November 4, 2004, 6:32 pm, in category General

Sorry I had a few days off from writing. What I thought was a rough case of Jet lag, turned into a very bad cold. I also should learn how to post pictures because our day two was a picture perfect day.
We were able to meet another person who many of the Keystone people had met (and loved) during the summer internship program. Jeanine had told us about Tatiana and stated that I would be impressed. Well, that was an understatement! Ta..... Comments

Ann and I both kept a journal. Since we did not have access to a computer, we could not post in this journal. I decided to recall what each day was like!
Day one was really two days. Our flight was leaving from Washington Dulles Airport around 6PM on 10/15. We finally went to bed at 10:48 10/16. Ann and I had some errands to run and we headed to Pine Street. The office was crazy. Many had gathered to assemble the binders ..... Comments

Ann and I returned last night. Sorry we were unable to post while away. We thought we would have more access to the Internet. Many of the cafes in Russia have Internet access if you bring your own laptops ... but we had limited time to find a cafe much less finding a computer. The one day I did get to a computer, the keyboard was different and, as you all might have noticed, many typos appeared! It took me so long to post (and as you may hav..... Comments
